Need Help with a Dilemma

20/09/2013 05:10

Okay people, for the past few days I have been trying to overcome this little dilemma of mine and I think I might need some help with it. You see, all of my life I have been listening to nothing but rap and a little bit of heavy metal in between, but never for the life of me, have I ever listened to R n B. Yeah, I might have heard a few songs by chance on the radio from time to time, but I have never been a true fan of R n B music.

I was thinking of downloading some free R&B beats so that I could compare them with some of the free hip hop beats that I have stored in my hard drive. I want to compare their sounds and see if I might start using some R n B beats every once in a while. When it comes to music production, experimentation is key and I think that experimenting a bit with some R n B beats might be good for me.

Let me know what you guys think in the comments below. I would love to hear some opinions from some of the R n B fans out there. Just need some good feedback so I can start comparing them to my own created rap beats

Downloading for Fun

13/09/2013 05:02

I have always prided myself in being able to create my own original beats, but every once in a while I feel like downloading some free beats off the Internet so that I can get a little bit of reference for my upcoming projects. I know some of you out there might think that I’m a no talent hack for doing this, but hey I’m only human just like the rest of you and I also tend to suffer from mental lapses at times.  Downloading some free rap beats off the Internet is actually a great way to reenergize yourself whenever your brain has been drained dry.

And no, you do not have to worry about being sued for copyright infringement because downloading free beats off of websites that promote them is not illegal. I repeat people; it is not illegal so you do not have to worry about spending your hard earned money on lawyers that wear tacky suits. Now, getting back to the topic at hand, let me just say that downloading free beats off the World Wide Web is actually kind of fun.

You’d be surprised as to how amazing some of these people can be whenever they create beats. I sometimes envy them and wish that I had their talents. It also amazes me that these people have never had any sort of mainstream exposure despite the fact that they are quite talented in what they do. I just wish that more and more of them would someday develop the courage to stand out and show the world what they can do when it comes to making instrumentals.

Arguing with the Wife

30/08/2013 01:51

It’s kind of funny because I just got finished arguing with my wife a few minutes back and boy did we have one hell of a verbal tussle. It is a good thing that the kids are over at their grandparents’ right now because I would not want them to hear some of the stuff that came out of my wife’s mouth while we were having our little discussion earlier. Everything is cool now and we have both made up, but man is she one scary dame when she gets angry. Hell, I’m lucky that I don’t have any bullet holes in my body right now because she is one mean woman.

I now fully understand why they said that hell’s fury is simply no match for the wrath of an angry woman. Husbands, take note of this because this might end up saving your ass in the long run.  So after that stressful war of words with my beloved spouse, I decided to take out my frustrations on my FL Studio software and created some beats.

I also proceed to download some free beats from the Internet so I could sample them and use them for my own creations. Thank the Good Lord for FL Studio because without it I might end up going to the looney bin under my own accord. If any of you guys ever get into a fight with your wives or girlfriends, then I suggest you do what I just did and soak yourself in some good old fashioned music.

Listen to the Radio

16/08/2013 12:28

As a music producer, there will be times when I will suffer from burnout and run out of new ideas for my next beats. It is natural and it does happen, but that doesn’t mean that you have to like it. As a matter of fact, I hate it whenever I get burned out. This is like the musical equivalent of suffering from writer’s block, except instead of running out of words to write for your article, I’m actually running out of sounds to use for my beats. Boy, I have already lost count of how many times I have suffered from getting burned out.

If any of you music producers out there have ever gone through this kind of phase, then I suggest you try listening to the radio to get some ideas. I’m serious when I say this too because this is exactly what I do whenever my good old brain just refuses to cooperate with me. You might be surprised on some of the stuff that you can pick off from the radio and just how good they are. Hell, I once used a sample of the Paul Anka song “Smoke Gets Into Your Eyes” on one of my beats once and I sure liked how it turned out. It’s too bad that my nephew accidentally deleted it though because it was one of my favorites.

So the next time you ever run out of ideas to use for your beats, just switch on the good ole radio and let the ideas flow into your head.

Music Makers and Their Magic

02/08/2013 02:43

Man I cannot help but to be thankful for the invention of music making software because without it, I would probably not be able to create my own beats through my computer. Hell, I’d probably not be able to download some of the free beats that I use as reference material from the Internet if it were not for beat making software. Some of the people in this generation have to understand that back in the day, aspiring music producers did not have this sort of luxury. We might have had computers back then, but programs that allowed us to make our own beats without the need for expensive equipment were pretty much non-existent.

The people who grew up in the Internet age are pretty damn lucky because they now have everything readily available to them. Back in the 80’s and the 90’s we had to manually look for the information that we wanted through books and magazines. Nowadays, all you need to do is to type in a few words on Google and you’ll be given tons of resources for your search.

Music producers who wanted to make it big and let their beats standout couldn’t actually do that unless they had big pockets back in those days. This is why I am very thankful for the creation of beat making software because it has allowed me to live my dreams. So if I were you, I would take full advantage of all these features and start making some wicked beats on my computer as well.

Darn Dog Keeping Me Awake!

19/07/2013 04:32

Seriously, it is times like these that make me want to get out of my bed and strange my next door neighbor’s dog to death. Now, don’t get me wrong because I am a complete animal lover. In fact, I once cried for 2 days straight when my dog died back when I was still a kid. But if a dog happens to be barking nonstop at 2 in the morning, then you have the right to feel mighty pissed about the whole damn situation.

It would be cool if the dog’s bark sounded a lot like the free beats I download off the Internet, but man this dog’s bark is literally worse than its bite.  Call me crazy for saying this shit, but I would much rather get bitten by that dog instead of having to hear it barking in the wee hours of the morning. I’m typing this thing at 3:15 in the freaking morning all thanks to that dog. I can’t go back to sleep anymore so I thought I’d just write up my frustration on my blog and create some  beats  while I’m at it.

I think I might even try to download some free hip hop beats off the web just for kicks since I’ve been in need of some reference material anyway. That dog and my next door neighbours are damn lucky that I am not in the mood to go head over to their house and beat the crap out of that animal. I love dogs man, but I hate it whenever my sleep gets disturbed by excessive barking.

What Is the Secret to Making Music?

04/07/2013 21:44

You know, I have been asked this question plenty of times over the years and I have to say that there is simply no definite answer to it. The truth is, there is no secret to making music because being a beat maker requires you to study the art of music and master your craft. If there were to be a “secret” in music production, then I would probably have to say that it is constant practice. I didn’t get my skills as a beat maker handed to me, oh no. I had to study and practice like crazy just to become good at what I do.

All it takes is a good amount of dedication and the will to succeed. It is not going to be an easy road to take, that much I can tell you, but if you keep on practicing and studying music then you will eventually become good at it. Do not listen to whatever crap other people say about how they have been good since birth because that is a complete lie.

These people are probably mutants for saying that they became good at music production the moment they were born. Trust me no one is born with music production embedded into their genes. It takes a special kind of idiot to actually believe that he can start making his own free beats right after he exits his mother’s womb. Remember that hard work, practice, and dedication are all the things you need in order to become a master beat maker.
